Abstract

Sensory loss is when a person’s sight or hearing becomes impaired. In developed countries, regardless of whether a person was born without sight or hearing or unfortunate events caused it, there is medical, education and financial support. Additionally, the necessary equipment is available to them. This cannot be said for those who suffer from sensory loss in regions like sub-Saharan Africa. There are a variety of organisations and on-going projects which aid those who are impaired by offering the necessary support needed. When specifically looking at hearing loss, mild to severe, organisations tend to look at medical support then education and financial. This is done to try and prevent hearing loss from occurring due to environmental causes. This project aims to compliment the educational support that is available, or become the stepping stone for educational support. The purpose of this project is to create a fun and interactive educational mobile application which teaches the users the basics concepts of Sign Language. In other words the project aims to teach users the basic knowledge needed to communicate, as this is key in any setting.
