{{#ask: has second reader::Andy Pimentel is finished::Yes | mainlabel=Title | ?student name=Student | ?has supervisor=Supervisor | ?has company=Company | ?end date=Finished | sort=end date | order=descending | intro=Second reader }} Modern embedded systems like consumer electronics (e.g., smartphones, tablets, TVs, set-top boxes, etc.), which typically are based on heterogeneous multi-processor system-on-chip architectures, are increasingly hard to design. Besides the complex underlying computer architectures of these systems, their design needs to take a range of, often conflicting, design objectives into account: these systems should be high performance (real time), energy efficient (saving battery power, no active cooling, etc.), low cost, reliable (no crashing TVs), highly flexible (programmable/reconfigurable to enable updates), etc. For this reason, research on high-level modeling and simulation techniques, which allow for capturing the behavior of system components and their interactions at a high level of abstraction, is of eminent importance. As these high-level simulation models usually require less modeling effort and facilitate highly efficient simulation, they are especially well suited for deployment during the early design stages, where the design space is vast. Early exploration of the design space is critical, because early design choices heavily influence the success or failure of the final product. So, in a nutshell: I do highly efficient system simulations and smart search algorithms that allow for exploring large design spaces.

I have MSc projects available on basically all aspects of modelling, simulation and exploration of multi-processor system-on-chip architectures: modelling and simulation of systems (performance modelling, power modelling, modelling workload behaviour, modelling system reliability etc.), design space exploration and pruning techniques (smart searching algorithms to intelligently search the design space for optimal designs), system adaptivity (e.g. resource management algorithms to dynamically adapt the underlying system according to application workload behaviour), and so on.
