Description

Problem: Often, scientific studies are not reproducible, and often only successful studies are published. This leads to a bias and motivates dishonest scientific practices.

Solution: The Bitcoin block chain and related approaches open new possibilities to apply technical means to ensure a level of trust in a decentralized fashion.

Method: Scientific studiese could be announced beforehand in the block chain, then their progress could be logged, and their results linked, all in a way that cannot be changed afterwards. Reviewers of papers, for example, could check how many experiments were announced, and how these progressed over time, which would give them more information to decide whether a study meets the scientific quality criteria.
