With the advancement in mobile technology, more activities (online payment, news, money transfer, twitting, Facebook chat, etc) are carried out on portable devices such as smart-phone and PDA. The main challenge today facing mobile device users is privacy. Since most of these devices are vulnerable to attacks from intruders who simply use techniques such as social engineering and spam. Such attacks severely violate the user privacy and compromise the security of the device. The first objective of this project is to study the state of art on face recognition algorithms and some behavioral characteristics (smiling, etc). Assess which one of these algorithms have already been implemented or developed for user authentication on smart-phone and which of this algorithm is suitable for this task. The second objective is to define some criteria to perform a comparative analysis among the selected algorithms and choose the best candidate for this purpose. Finally, implement the chosen algorithm on a real smart-phone and evaluate it with series of tests.
