Evolution of Organism Body and Mind
A common problem within swarm robotics is in finding the right organism for any given task. While it is easy to design a specific solution for a particular problem, there are no easy ways to find the right shape for tasks in general.
During this master thesis the possibility for environment driven evolution of shape is explored using the following scenario. There is an arena, filled with eggs, assembled organisms and free robots. Assembled organisms that get within range of an egg will leave there genome at the egg. Once an egg has two genomes it will call out to the free robots in order to form the organism created by the combination of the two genomes. Even in the absence of an explicit fitness function this scenario might lead to the evolution of creatures adapt at locomotion.
