3D printing is becoming more popular every day and may one day make an appearance in the living room of consumers in the future. 3D printers are already sold by various companies. The parameters settings of a 3D printer have a big impact on the printing process, which in turn affects the quality of the object that is printed. While expert users may know which parameters affect a 3D object, a novice user has no idea. A novice would like to find the most optimal parameters in the shortest amount of time possible, this also holds for a big company. The optimal parameters of a 3D-printer can be found, using parameter tuning algorithms. This research shows that parameter tuners can tune the parameters of a 3D-printer and are able to find “good” parameter values in the first few hundred runs. Furthermore a method is proposed, which shows promise in automating the parameter tuning process for a 3D-printer.
