Description
Xerox manufacturing has implemented a thin client environment for their location in Venray, the Netherlands, based on a technology from supplier Panduit. The goal was to decrease IT administration and operation costs, hardware costs and in the meantime meet the sustainability policy of Xerox. In this project, the student needs to estimate (in theory) the economic and environmental impact of applying desktop virutualization and evaluate if such decision will bring expected benefits in practice. Research topics include: - Estimate the environmental and economic impact of desktop virtualization by introducing modelling and possibly simulation tools. - Validation of ICT-based decision (desktop virtualization) making based on investment, operational and energy costs - Contribution to the discussion whether desktop virtualization increases or decreases sustainability levels of organizations/environments. - Analysis of the economic and investment implications of an energy-efficient organization thin client scenario based on several periods of time (for example 2,5,10 years).
