In 11 countries a number of East-Asian institutes for higher education recently started a shared virtual community in computer engineering. Shared academic programmes were developed by using internet. In these programmes academics and students share information in a virtual environment. In particular the shared course materials and the live-lectures create opportunities for students to collect information. Part of these internet activities could replace existing academic programmes within the institutes.
