Abstract
In 11 countries a number of East-Asian institutes for higher education recently started a shared virtual community in computer engineering. Shared academic programmes were developed by using internet. In these programmes academics and students share information in a virtual environment. In particular the shared course materials and the live-lectures create opportunities for students to collect information. Part of these internet activities could replace existing academic programmes within the institutes. Important questions arise with regard to the implications for the future of computer engineering in Asia.
